Mellisa's cell phone rang. She picked it up quickly. "Hello," she answered. "Mellisa, it's Tom." "Tom? What are you doing calling me?" she asked. "Well, I'm back in Madison." "Back in Madison? What about college?" she asked. "Well, it wasn't really working out for me. I don't think I'm exactly the college kind of guy, you know?" Mellisa laughed, "Okay, so you're home." "I sure am. So, I just wanted to know if you wanted to catch up sometime. I mean, maybe?" he asked. "Of course, I do. You can come over right now, if you want." "Alright. Where exactly do you live?" Mellisa proceeded to give him the directions.
About ten minutes later, Mellisa heard a knock on her door. She opened it and found Tom standing there. "Come in," she said, opening the door wider to let him in. "You're looking as stunning as always," he said, exploring the room. "You have some new tattoos, I see," she said running her hand down his left arm. "Last time you saw me, I only had three." Mellisa laughed, "How many do you have now?" "Uhm, 9," he said. "God, that's a lot." He just shrugged.

"So, why's college not for you?" she asked. "I've been singing and playing the drums," he said. "Oh," Mellisa said. He smiled and handed her a CD. "Have a listen," he said. Mellisa smiled and popped it into the CD player. "You better be good," she said laughing. "It's me and my band, Red Car Wire. There's not that many songs on it, but we're working on some other ones."

"I like it," Mellisa said. Tom smiled, "Thank you. The name of it's Ringtones." Tom turned to the next song. "This is Affinity." http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/8/22/2060345/05-red_car_wire-affinity.mp3
"You guys are really good," Mellisa said. "Yeah, they're awesome guys," Tom said. Mellisa switched to the next song.

"This is Kids in Love," he told her. Mellisa went and sat down on the couch. "Tom, I love the music, but how are you going to make a living by doing this? Be realistic. The chances of you guys going big is pretty slim," she said. "Actually, we have quite a few shows," Tom said. "That's great, but still-" Mellisa said. "And we've been featured on several websites. The New Noise Report featured us as one of their artists," he continued. "That's terrific," Mellisa said. She decided not to fight him. "We were also the top unsigned artist on PureVolume." "So I just might be talking to the next big rocker, huh?" Mellisa smiled, nudging him. He laughed, "You never know." She smiled, "Do you want something to drink?" "Sure, a Coke." Mellisa got one and brought it back. "You're sure you're not going to go back to college?" she asked. "I've changed my major three times. Right now, it's just a waste of money. I'd rather get my shit together and then head back if I decide to." Mellisa nodded. "What's been up with you? Are you still friends with Lauren and them?" "Lauren? Yes. And them?" "I mean, like Debbie the Ditz, April, you know?" "Debbie the Ditz? I love that and no, we're not friends. April isn't really a friend anymore. Pretty much, it's me and Lauren and the guys," Mellisa said. "Oh, glad you realized what a bitch Debbie was. I always hated her." "Yeah, now she's just a loser who goes to MSU," Mellisa said. "Ah, fits her." "What?" "The loser part." Mellisa laughed, "Please tell me you don't still talk to Angelica." "I can happily tell you that I don't," Tom said. "Now, she was a bitch." Tom shrugged, "Now she's just a depressed emo. It got kind of depressing to be around her. She was always crying and shit. You know I can't handle that." Mellisa laughed at the picture that formed in her mind. "And you're not emo?" "I'm not depressed though. I'm a happy emo." Mellisa smiled, "I thought the whole idea of an emo was to be sad." "No, not at all. Emo actually stands for emotional and most people take that to mean you cry at everything. It can also mean that you get happy at the slightest little things. See, you just got to look at things the right way and you can see whatever you want to," Tom told her. "I guess you're right. I've just never looked at it that way," she said. He laughed, "I didn't figure you had. Anyway, it's kind of late, huh?" Mellisa glanced at her phone, "It's 12:05." "Tonight was fun, but I have to go. Keep the CD as my gift to you," he told her. "Oh, okay. I know the busy rocker probably has hundreds of other girls to talk to tonight," Mellisa said. "Of course because I'm just so stunning and interesting," Tom said sarcastically. Mellisa stood up and so did he. "Good night," he told her. He leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Good night, Tom. You can come over anytime. We pretty much always have people over and stuff." "Okay, I will definitely take you up on that. Bye." He waved and then left.
