mellisa was in her room, on the computer when big red walked in. "hey," he said. "lauren's downstairs," mellisa said without looking up. "yeah, i know." mellisa looked up now. "why are you up here?" "can i not be up here?" big red asked laughing. "you can be up here, but why are you?" mellisa asked. she closed her laptop. "i don't know," big red said shrugging and sitting down on her bed. mellisa didn't say anything; she just watched him. he picked at a string from the fabric and mellisa finally said, "really, big red, why did you come up here?" "can't i just want to hang out?" he asked. "yeah," mellisa felt instantly bad, "sure. i just.. i mean, why didn't you just say that at first?" big red shrugged. mellisa turned the chair at her desk around to face him. she sat down in it and said, "so?" "so you're hanging out with jerrett, huh?" mellisa nodded. big red stood up, "you know what? i shouldn't have came up here anyways." he started to the door and mellisa jumped up from the chair and stood in front of it just as he reached it. he put his hands on the door to keep himself from falling into her. "what?" he asked. "don't leave so quick." big red took a step back, "i'm done, though. i did what i came up here to do." "what?" mellisa asked narrowing her eyes. "i just wanted to see if you were-in fact-going to hang out with jerrett and you are. now i'm done and i was going to leave," big red said. mellisa moved out of the way of the door. she nodded. big red hesitantly took another step towards it. "does lauren know you came over?" mellisa asked. "no," big red said shaking his head quickly. "okay, yeah, good," mellisa said just as quickly. "yeah." "have a good night, big red," mellisa said as he opened the door. "you too. oh, and if you decide you don't want to hang out with jerrett or he doesn't want to hang out with you, i'm free." mellisa nodded, "okay." big red walked down the stairs and mellisa closed the door back. "god, that was weird," mellisa muttered.
