guess what??

"you wanna know why i took you to the nicest hotel in the city?" brandon asked. "why?" lauren asked. "we're celebrating." "what exactly are we celebrating?" lauren asked him. he smiled, "i got a promotion at work." "oh my god!" lauren said smiling and hugging him. "what kind of promotion?" "well, i've been the office secretary, i guess you'd say. it's basically the lowest you can be, but mark's secretary quit. i'm taking her place," brandon said. lauren's smiled widened, "that's terrific, brandon! how much more money are you going to be making?" she asked. "that's the best part. this is a major promotion. mark's secretary does a lot of important stuff. i was making about $20,000 and now with this i should be making around $55,000." lauren's mouth dropped open, "holy shit!" "i know," brandon said smiling. lauren hugged him. "brandon, you're rich!" he laughed, "i don't know if i'd say i'm rich, but i'm not doing too bad." "too bad? brandon, you're making more than a lot of families make all together," lauren encouraged. "yeah, and it's a lot more stable than being the office secretary. mark's really picky about his secretary and he doesn't change them often if at all. he's only had that one secretary his entire career. she'd still be there if she wasn't getting married and leaving," brandon said. "that's wonderful." "oh, that's not all." "what else could there be?" she asked. "mark said that if i wanted to go to college for something higher up in the law field then he'd help me out with paying." lauren smiled, "are you going to?" "i don't know. i'm not sure what to go into. i know it'd be a good idea just in case i ever wanted to not be a secretary anymore," brandon said. "yeah, and he's offering to help. i don't think mark really does that all the time," lauren told him. "i should do this, right?" brandon said. "it's up to you. when you go to classes?" she asked. that was what she was worried about. between work and classes, would there be any time for her? "he said i'd mostly have to take them at night but if i wanted to take, like, one class during the day, he'd let me off work." "you've got to do this, brandon. even if you don't have as much time to spend with me, this is a great opportunity. i don't think i can let you pass it up." "i know. i just don't know what to do. i don't want to be a lawyer. what else is there that i could still work for mark doing?" "i can't help on that. maybe you should ask mark," lauren suggested. "i will." "i'm really proud of you, brandon. i love you so much."
